PENGARUH KONSENTRASI CARBOPOL 940 SEBAGAI GELLING AGENT TERHADAP STABILITAS SIFAT FISIK EMULGEL HAND SANITIZER MINYAK SEREH WANGI (Cymbopogon nardus L.)
Abstract
Hand sanitizer is a type of alcohol-based hand sanitizer that is used to kill microorganisms by using it without rinsing with water. The main compounds in citronella oil include geraniol, citronellol and citronellal which act as antibacterial. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the concentration of Carbopol 940 as a gelling agent on the stability of the physical properties in the hand sanitizer emulgel preparation of citronella oil (Cymbopogon nardus L.). This research is an experimental study with the object being studied is the stability of the physical properties of the citronella oil hand sanitizer emulgel preparation. The tests carried out on the five formulas included the stability of the physical properties of the emulgel, organoleptic testing, pH, homogeneity, viscosity, adhesion, dispersion and antiseptic effectiveness. Testing the effectiveness of antiseptics was carried out using a modified replica method using AntisĀ® hand sanitizer (positive control), Carbopol 940 (negative control) and emulgel preparations with concentrations of 0.25%, 0.5%, 1%, 2% and 2.5%. The physical properties test data obtained were analyzed by One Way ANOVA with 95% confidence level. Emulgel with a concentration of 2% carbopol 940 met the requirements for stability of physical properties because the results of the physical test showed stability in storage for 8 weeks with no change in organoleptic properties (white, characteristic smell of lemongrass and semisolid), pH of 5.28-5.79 and homogeneity with no visible presence of coarse grains in the preparation. The results of the viscosity test are 63500-81700 MPas, the dispersion test is 3.8-4.3 cm and the results of the adhesion test are 1.06 - 2.12 meet the adhesive power requirements, which is more than 1 second. Emulgel with carbopol 940 concentration of 2.5% had the most effective antiseptic activity with a decrease in the number of colonies to 0colony.
